Northwestern Thailand

Northern Thailand is where tourists will find the mountainous region and the city of Chiang Mai. Founded over 800 years ago, the older parts of the city reflect its ancient heritage. Moats and the walls that once surrounded the city are still standing today. As with the rest of the country, ancient temples abound throughout the city and surrounding countryside. The older temples date as far back as the 14th century.

Accessible by road and rail, the city of Chiang Mai is near 4 national parks. The nearest park to the city is Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. It contains a Buddhist temple as well as Bhubing Palace. This was once a winter residence of the Royal Family. Chaing Mai is also famous for its Sunday Night Walking Street. This is where vendors line the road to sell an incredible array of authentic Thai foods such as pad Thai, samosas, chicken satay and sweet rotees. A wide variety of small shops selling locally made products are also available.
